buffer bloat qos

Post by dantheman61 » August 23rd, 2017, 3:36 pm

Hi i am new here. I am trying to reduce buffer bloat on my home network. I have a cable contention of 250Mbps download and 20Mbps up. I have set qos on ipfire to 240000kbit/s download and 18000 kbit/sec and used preset. According to dslreports.com's speedtest my buffer bloat is A+ with qos off buffer bloat is D. but if i test buffer bloat with qos on by running a speed test and looking at ping the ping go up to 1000ms. Why is dslreports buffer bloat is good but the ping dose not?

I have also set download to 100000kbit/s and ping still goes up to 1000ms

I'd like to know the answer to this also! I'm in the process of learning about buffer bloat (I got an F on my DSLreports Buffer Bloat speed test - ouch!).

Take a look at this post:
Bufferbloat Testing
The issue appears to be that if you have your download rate too high, the download buffer gets bloated and causes pings to be delayed when they return to you. If you lower your download rate, it keeps the buffer from getting too full.
and this calculation:
Calculating burst size for class-of-service

maybe this might help?
