Post by lim_sovannara » March 23rd, 2013, 2:39 am

Hi, Dear
anyone could help me? when I use Custom blacklist to block www.facebook.com it's working fine, but anyhow someone still can access it by using smart phone.
I hope anyone could help me to solve this problem.
Thank in advance.

Try blocking facebook.com instead of www.facebook.com, but the possibility is that smart phones ignore filtering via proxy, as there is no settting for proxy in some phone versions of Android for example.

Therefore the only possibilty is to blocked the smartphones completely. :(

Is the smart phone connected to wifi or using 3G?

Blocking via 3G /3G+/4G is almost impossible, cause the smart phone is working autonomiclly...

For a facebook block on wifi devices such as smart phones and tablets, the problem is, we need to set the proxy in system or try to influence the system by providing a transparent proxy.

Hey All,

My smarphone users all connect to WIFI to access some business apps. I blocked facebook.com and facebook.mobi - that seems to work....

Cheers

Hi,

I think the only way is to block *.facebook.* in URL filter + outgoing https... :-)
...or an APP firewall

Are you sure about this (Proxy settings in smart phone operating system or just transparent filtering)?

Because in my Experience the URL Filter when not applied in System is ignored by most smartphone apps, at least if they are using another port than TCP/IP / UDP 80.
