Re: IDS Rule updater - with rule state persistance

Hi TimF, Thanks for this, I've been busy and haven't read the forums in a very long time. Looks like I've missed out! I've just updated the IPFire Security Hardening guide to reference the first post in this thread, rather than the old "snortupdate.pl" script written by Kick@ass, H&M and gitarman94 ...

Re: Snort Rules Update

I'm not sure what has changed, but since the last core update to IPFire this script no longer checks and downloads rules when necessary. It is downloading rules every single run. Since I had it running in /etc/fcron.hourly, I've been downloading a 98 MiB snortrules.tar.gz file every hour, or 2352 Mi...

Re: Snort Rules Update

Since the update to IPFire Core Update 123 I've been getting SSL related errors: # perl -w /var/ipfire/snort/snortupdate.pl Unrecognized LWP::UserAgent options: ssl_opts at /var/ipfire/snort/snortupdate.pl line 112 Use of uninitialized value $vnumer in substitution (s///) at /var/ipfire/snort/snortu...

Re: Script to read traffic speed which is used by Ajax speedmeter

Thank you ummeegge!

I have the script working but wanted to avoid impacting all internet traffic to the network.
In the short-term I changed the speed test IP to a high priority in the QoS settings. This way the test is more accurate, even if it interrupts internet usage a little.

Script to read traffic speed which is used by Ajax speedmeter

Hello, Can a script running on IPFire read the traffic speed (in and out) which is displayed in the Ajax speedmeter? My ISP is having difficult to problems with variable bandwidth. I've been running speed tests on a schedule to collect evidence. The problem is that the speed tests are not accurate i...

Re: Snort Rules Update

Great work gitarman94!! I like how it can be run regularly, with low impact, and will actually start Snort if it's stopped. Have you had a chance to address the issues which H&M mentioned? I read this thread and quickly scanning the comments in your latest script, but I'm not sure if they have been...

Re: Not all x86

The Fountain networks IpFire Duo Box does look a good reference but shipping costs generally make items from Europe or North America unafordable to my location (Australis). Other posters have reported Qotom boxes working and I have a Supox A8 ITX board that works fine as a desktop and looks like al...

Re: QOS kills bandwidth

So, I went ahead and deleted everything except the "Default" classes, ensured the max bandwidth was correct for each one, and...same thing. Enable QoS, upload is fine (low 40Mb), download maxes out at 250Mb. Disable QoS, upload is 50Mb, download is 530Mb. Sorry I'm not sure. I think you've done the...

Re: QOS kills bandwidth

Qos breaks up bandwidth so that no 1 user can achieve the 500mb which would leave everyone else with none. Hello, What gave you the impression that QoS can share bandwidth between users like that? I ask as it is my understanding that it only sets a priority and maximum bandwidth for each protocol o...

Re: Update Accelerator revisited

PS: I am NOT expecting a web interface for this. While that would be nice the update accelerator is incomplete in other important ways, like automatically pruning cache files (see jlgtx's post above).

Re: Update Accelerator revisited

Hello, I'm glad to see this is still being used and updated. Is somebody officially maintaining it now? I was hoping to ask if it would be possible to add a feature. I'd like to split the functionality in to multiple files so that I can maintain my own "source_url" sections without them being overwr...

Re: Cannot set ppp0's MTU to 1500

Thanks for that!
I'll try it now.

EDIT: Oh I read your response in the email notification before this edit. Thanks anyway!
I didn't find the script, but I'm sure IPFire is automatically subtracting 8 bytes for the PPPoE headers. I'll double check with my ISP.

Cannot set ppp0's MTU to 1500

Hi, I've been troubleshooting my internet connection and noticed a MTU mismatch. My ISP assures me that I do not need to have an MTU lower than 1500, however IPFire keeps setting ppp0 to 1492. (I don't and won't ever use a VPN) I can't find anything on the wiki and nothing in the forums in English. ...

Re: How to disable the MAC Filtering in hostapd ?.

I recently switched to using external Ubiquti access points and couldn't figure out why my WiFi clients weren't able to access DNS after I switched my WiFi card with an ethernet card...I forgot about this! So to help others I have updated the wiki. Changed this https://wiki.ipfire.org/configuration/...

Re: Unable to Install the system - 2.19 Core 117 [SOLVED]

Thank you. I realise that and have previously transferred IPFire to different storage using 'dd'. The issue is that I prefer the XFS filesystem and it cannot be shrunk only expanded. As 'dd' copies all blocks, even empty ones, I'll have to do an additional step and create a new /var which is small e...
