IPFire additional storage option vs. some other box ??

May I ask why you've chosen Scientific Linux rather than FreeNAS or NAS4Free ?!? I used to use the legacy FreeNAS, but when FreeNAS moved to the newer platform, it required more resources than I wanted to dedicate. I also prefer Red Hat based Linux distros since it makes more sense to me and becaus...

Re: no IDS logs??

If it makes a difference, I am using Sourcefire VRT rules for registered users and my rules were last updated Jan. 24th. Is this a common problem with IPfire? I've seen other posts about it with no solution given, like this one. http://forum.ipfire.org/index.php/topic,6288.30.html

Re: no IDS logs??

Yes, they are emtpy. The guardian log has entries about receiving the kill signal from some reboots I did, but that's it.

[SOLVED] no IDS logs??

For some reason, my system doesn't seem to be logging for IDS.  I have verified that on the IDS page, RED Snort is checked, as well as Guardian.  The Guardian config is below: Interface: red0 Tmelimit: 86400 Logfile: /var/log/guardian/guardian.log Alertfile: /var/log/snort/alert Ignorefile...

Re: automated backup solution

Ok, how about this....which script enables you to do a backup from the Backup tab on the system page? I'd like to automate this if possible.

Re: new install pakfire stay empty

I had the same problem a couple nights ago when I was testing IPfire in a virtual machine. I was behind another hardware firewall and I think that was causing the issue. Once I installed IPFire on the machine that was my old firewall, the problem went away.

Re: IPFire additional storage option vs. some other box ??

I've never been a big fan of making a dedicated firewall also serve as a NAS, media server, streaming box, whatever. I have a separate system running Scientific Linux that serves as my NAS. I really like it. I used to use FreeNAS, but it was kind of slow and when they moved to the newer platform, it...

automated backup solution

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie to IPFire. I was using Smoothwall as my firewall until just a couple days ago when I switched over to IPFire. I like it so far. I do have a question though. Is there an automated solution available for backups? I had this set up in Smoothwall, but I'm not really sure how...
