Does IPFire support Dual Port 10GB NIC?

Post by ramses2010 » March 11th, 2016, 8:38 pm

Hello and Aloha,

I'm planning to put the new 10GB dual port NIC at the PCI express slot. Will IPFire see it?

Do I need to make any changes or settings for it to see it? or it is just a standard setup, assign an interface to the card?

Thanks! O0

It depends on the NIC if it is supported or not. Broadcom or Intel should be fine.

10G is running awesome in the IPFire Premium Appliance. You will need some processor power to utilise the bandwidth and many PCIe lanes.

Assignment works like any other NICs too.

Hi Michael,

Just to clarify: You are positive that an Intel 10Gb NIC with dual port seated in PCIe will be detected by IPfire? Will it show up as two ports in the assignment screen?

Thank you!

Hey,

without knowing the exact model I cannot guarantee anything. Although it is very likely. Check out if you find it on this list of supported Intel devices: http://fireinfo.ipfire.org/device/pci/8086

A dual NIC will show up as two interfaces.

Hi Michael,

You are correct it does recognize it. The only trouble is I bought the wrong type, I actually need a Fiber NIC instead of Copper. Which bring me to my question- Will IPFIRE recognize an 10GB NIC SPF type (fiber) in PCIe?

Thank you again!
