Solved: Software for benchmarking system pre/post core 132?

Post by pontlrs » June 9th, 2019, 12:50 am

Does anyone have any recommendations for a benchmarking program/suite to run before and after installing core 132? Was thinking about using the Phoronix Test Suite, but it requires php, which was removed from IPFire last year (a decision I fully agree with.)

Edit: Should have checked pakfire thoroughly, it has sysbench, so I'll try that.

I've been doing benchmarking also (for the same reason!). I loaded up the sysbench last week and noticed it is an older version. But it is all we have for now. I'll do some sysbench tests sometime this week. Please keep in mind I am not an expert with benchmarking. I just did a best guess of what might help me decide with pre/post core 132.

iperf3
I did some iperf3 testing both internally with the IPFire box and externally. I'll probably toss out the external numbers due inconsistent results. Here are the tests I ran with iPerf3:

Internal from Mac to IPFire box:
(IPFire box was running iperf3 -s)

Code: Select all

iMac:~ jon$ iperf3 -c 192.168.60.1
iMac:~ jon$ iperf3 -c 192.168.60.1 -R
External server from local Mac through IPFire box to ext server:

Code: Select all

iMac:~ jon$ iperf3 -c mirror.square-r00t.net
iMac:~ jon$ iperf3 -c mirror.square-r00t.net -R

openssl speed tests
Next I did some speed tests with openssl. I only used a few cyphers.

Code: Select all

#!/usr/bin/env bash
date
for d in aes-256-gcm aes-192-gcm aes-128-gcm camellia-256-cbc camellia-192-cbc camellia-128-cbc aes-256-cbc aes-192-cbc aes-128-cbc seed-cbc
do
   echo; echo "${d} : "
   echo
   /usr/bin/openssl speed -elapsed -evp $d
done

openVPN speed tests
I just started with openVPN speed tests. It will probably be along these lines:

Code: Select all

/usr/sbin/openvpn --genkey --secret /tmp/secret
/usr/sbin/openvpn --test-crypto --secret /tmp/secret --verb 0 --tun-mtu 20000 --ncp-disable --cipher aes-256-gcm
I'm not sure if this is the right group of benchmarking tests. But I hope it helps.
