Option to install latest (test) version in Pakfire

Post by doc » October 8th, 2019, 8:52 am

I've seen that three weeks after releasing the latest 136 test core, only 0.30% are using/testing it.

IMHO it would help a lot to have GUI buttons in Pakfire to install/uninstall the latest testing core version.
In the moment, this is only possible by command line, what might be a kind of annoying for users with little system knowledge.
Implementation of this feature shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks, Arne, I'm aware of this page.
My idea/suggestion is to automate the described process so that one hasn't to use the shell.

OTH, this would probably animate too inexperienced users from pressing the trigger...

Initially it was intended that this could done only via the shell because if something goes wrong you need some knowledge to fix it (e.g. reinstall it manually by resetting core version file)

Im still not sure if this is a good Idea because it is not posible to switch back to stable until a core was released as stable...

Arne, IMHO, there should be buttons to install the test core and revert the test core to the latest stable core.
Just execute/automate the steps of the wiki page above.
Sure, problems may arise when something goes wrong. But then one have to use the shell anyway.
