GRUB rescue

Post by zkab » March 11th, 2018, 9:37 am

I have Samsung 960 Evo as storage and installed ipfire 2.19 core update 118.
The installation went OK but after reboot I get:
GRUB Loading ...
error: no such device 9db6625f....
Entering recue mode

Before ipfire installation I tested the hardware by installing Ubuntu 17.10 and it was OK ... all hardware components were detected
so the computer is OK but ipfire seems to have problem with it.

How can this be fixed ?

Thank for reply - but please in English ...
Do I interpret you that 960 EVO doesn't work but 960 Pro works in ipfire.
Meanwhile I did following ...
I used boot-repair-disk (https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/) and installed it on usb stick.
What I did was run info collection (http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RwpTJ7JmqH/) and then repair (http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/nskvwJyKNv/).
Still I get grub rescue with error: no such device f3da2fd1-2f48-4e7c-9898-02cd316a3297

Sorry for the post in german.

PCIe attached SSD's are not working in CSM Mode (Compatibly Support Module) unless they have a extra Bootrom (like the 960 pro) that emulate INT13h access.

grub2.00 cannot access this disks directly so it not find the device.

This is an ipfire issue ... I tested pfsense and the installation went OK just like Ubuntu installation on the same computer.
I hope ipfire will fix it ...
