vmware esxi - neuinstallation - kernel panic - Core 131

Post by fire-user » June 4th, 2019, 10:02 am

Hello ipfire friends,

does anyone have experience or a solution ready?

Every installation above Core 121 will trigger the same scenario ....

VMware ESXI 6.0.0
Fujitsu-Server Primergy TX1330 M2
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1220 v5 @ 3.00GHz

Hi, without any more information about which options are active in the VM nobody will be able to help you. I can say that I had no problem with Virtualbox to Core130 So please a little bit more details.

which image 32 or 64 bit?

if 64 bit you need 2 cores
Wenn das die 64bit Version ist versuch mal einen zweiten Kern einzuschalten. 64bit Linux braucht mindestens zwei (virtuelle) Kerne.

It doesn't make much sense to describe your hardware only.
Virtual solutions like vmware, Virtualbox, ... establish a virtual hardware. This is the base on which a operating system like IPFire is installed.
Because this OS can't even handle all possible hardware devices, a second layer of complexity is introduced by the virtualisation.
The whole system consists of
  • hardware with the real devices
  • host OS, which handles this HW
  • virtualisation SW, which makes the connection host OS <---> guest SW
  • guest OS, which works on this virtual HW
Thus it is necessary to state how which physical device shows up as virtual device to the guest OS.
