QOTOM-Q350G4 for GROB personnal network ?

Post by Whistra » May 13th, 2018, 3:45 pm

I manage my personal network for years with Ipcop running on an old IBM (pentium2 processor with 96MB Ram). I would to move to Ipfire and a modern small hardware.

My network configuration is the following :
- ISP Modem
- Red
- Orange : personal servers
- Blue : wifi things (TV, Hifi...)
- Green : wifi endpoint

I am lost after reading this forum. A lot of boards come with only two ethernet ports (ACU boards, etc.), not enough to set 4 interfaces up.

After hours, I finally found this fanless mini pc "Qotom Q350G4" : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/QOTOM-Q ... 57378.html

The main specs are :
- core i5
- 8 Go Ram (customization)
- 30 Go SSD (customization)
- 4 ethernet ports
- wifi (driver seems to be Antheros AR9287)

What do you think about it ?

It's about 300 usd, quite expensive by the way (and I don't need video support), but I didn't find cheaper.

Thank you :)

This is what I bought from Qotom but without Wifi.
QOTOM 4 LAN Mini PC, Q190G4N-S08 with 4GB RAM and 64GB SSD, Intel Celeron J1900 processor, Quad core 2.0 GHz

I think I paid $230 (USD).

I have one too for my simple RED/GREEN network at my condo.
I recently revised my approach on things and here's what and why.

1st the J1900 CPUs dont support AES-NI and as such that's something that I feel will be needed going forward, especially since I VPN always.
Also, I stay away from the 2-port devices because I felt like what if something happened to a port I'm SOL.
At least if I have 4 ports I can bring up another port (unless whatever is wrong renders all 4 ports dead)
Having the 4 port allows me to grow my network if I choose so I always aim to get the 4 port devices.

It's bit of a wait since it comes out of China
