Network card swap.. Have to re-install?

Post by tx.hermit » June 27th, 2018, 5:58 pm

Most of the times I reconfigure the network settings, IPFire hangs. I don't know if this is just a problem for me or if it just happens. But I have found myself needing to disable the onboard and pull out the add on nics to replace them with a dual intel card.

If I do that, should I assume I will have to re-install to make everything go smoothly? Or should it work by just re-configuring after boot?

Just trying to guesstimate the downtime for the network.

To reconfigure your NICs (e.g. after replacement), login as root on the console, then run setup and configure your NICs as required. That should be sufficient.

In the most cases you have to remove and readd all nic's in the setup if a assigned nic is missing.
