IPFire on mini-itx plus UE200 USB NIC

Post by robbage » November 19th, 2018, 9:22 am

Hi all. I have an old mini-itx I want to set up for home use (basic red/green) to replace an even older ipcop box.
The itx has only one NIC and there isn't enough room in the box for a PCI card (even a low profile one)
I bought a UE200 usb ethernet device which seems to be supported by Linux according to the all-knowing google, however it isn't shown in ipfire.
Do I need to install a driver for this to work? If so, any ideas how I would go about doing that? My Linux skills are somewhere between meh and gets by, can follow simple instructions

TIA

According different websites the TP-Link UE200 is based on Realtek RTL8152B wich is supported by IPFire out of the box this should work.
If it not work TP-Link has changed to an unsupported chip or not set a correct MAC Address so Linux refuse to use it...

Please provide the output of /var/log/message at connecting the USB Device...

I can confirm factually that this USB 3.0 gigabit adapter works
TP-LINK USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter

I don't suggest buying an older USB 2.0 one.
Afterall, you might end up with a USB 3.0 port and be able to gain plenty of speed instead of being stuck with a USB 2.0 via a USB 3.0 port which will be very slow.

Microcenter has them https://www.microcenter.com/product/496 ... rk-adapter
