Extra Green Interface

Post by Longun » August 15th, 2019, 10:39 am

Hi All,

Is it possible to have a second green interface? I'll give some background on my setup.

Red - External (No vlan physical connection to BT)
Orange - DMZ external hosted services (Vlan 11)
Blue - Guest Wireless (Vlan 9)
Green - My Internal Private Network, Wired and Wireless clients (Vlan 10)

I have one further network which is vlan 8. This network has its own wireless devices and is for my kids. This is because their SSID shuts down at night time, mornings and has additional filtering applied. As this is a separate network segment I'd like to have a second green interface for it. This network ideally needs to be routable with my current green network as they do access services on vlan 10 for music and video streaming. I had a L3 switch handling the SVI for this VLAN but Its died and I don't really want to replace it, so I'm wondering if I can just create an extra interface on IPfire?

One possible solution is here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=11860&p=89921&hilit=brctl#p76787

Look in the forum for "brctl" word - this is used to create a Layer 2 switch which is what you are searching for.

I also believe that an Wiki article exist on this network bridging topic - so search in wiki too for the same brctl word.

Hope it helps
